I watched part of this short video (below) awhile back and had been meaning to come back to it, but hadn’t found the time. Then today, when I wasn’t feeling like I had much energy, I decided to try and watch it again. Funny thing is it’s really not a long video and Mr. Leipzig is easy to listen to, and it’s a pretty quick run down of how to find one’s life purpose. Now to be honest, I’m not quite sure if I can say “ah! I have found my purpose!” after watching his Ted Talk… however it did make me realize how fortunate I am to be able to do readings, and the friendships I’ve built through those conversations as well. I have also realized that the purpose of my blog is kind of a teaching platform… and it allows me to create and write which are things I enjoy. So I may still be searching for my life purpose… but I can confidently say I feel I am on the right path. :0) I would also like to point out that this part of my life purpose, with the readings and the blog, wouldn’t be available to me without you! My readers and clients give me purpose… so together we have a collective life purpose, and for that I’d like to say thank you!! :o)
Below are the 5 questions to ask yourself for finding your life purpose. They are pretty straightforward. Who are you? (Insert name). What do you do…? Well, this one is a bit tricky for me since technically I don’t work. However, as Mr. Leipzig explains during his speech, there are other ways to explain this without it being about the type of work you are currently involved in. His last question, “How do they (the person/people you work for), change as a result”… that I find to be the most intriguing piece. After all, a sense of one’s life purpose seems to come from what we do for others, not just for ourselves. I also found while watching this video that I thought about my sweet dog, Sammy. I do a lot for him… and in theory one can say I “work” for him, too. ;0) It’s easy to answer the 5 questions when using Sammy as an example. I feed him, walk him, take him to vet appointments, play with him, give him spa days at the groomers. These are all things he needs and wants (maybe doesn’t want to see the vet but needs it from time to time). And how has he changed because of these things? Well, that’s fairly easy to answer too. By changing his food his weight is better and he has more energy. By having regular spa treatments his hair doesn’t get matted and it keeps him much cooler in the summer months. He is overall a pretty happy pup! Without these things his health would decline for sure and he would be miserable. So I would suggest when going through this list yourself, consider your pets and children too… even your parents if you’re taking care of them. We may not always have a huge or profound “life purpose” in front of us, screaming at us to change the world in massive ways. But I would argue that our daily activities can create a beautiful life purpose, if we are open to viewing it this way.
For quick reference I have the 5 questions below… and under that is the YouTube link for Adam Leipzig’s Ted Talk.
I hope that this has been helpful. It has been another strange week on my end, and with it being Friday, the 13th (oooohhhh… sooo spooky!)… I needed to have a little break before getting to this blog post.
I wish everyone a lovely weekend and a good couple weeks ahead! In the meantime, enjoy exploring your life purpose… and hopefully finding time to have some fun with it too!
Take care and big hugs!!
