Dream Protection

Lately there have been a lot of negative energies around people and this is causing stressful dreams. I am one of those people who has nightmares (or uncomfortable dreams) on the regular. Some suggestions are listed below as to what you can do to help set up your vibration and mindset before you rest your tired head. Will all of these techniques work for you? Probably not. However, it is worth trying different ones… yes! Some days one method will work better than another. Some may even be more fun to do with a partner, friend or a child (like what I’m calling “the happy dream box”). I did not create these ideas all by myself! I have just taken some suggestions from people I know, counsellors, and good ol’ Google… and then tweaked some things to make it fit better for me and my needs. So please do the same! Have fun with it! Explore the list below and see what feels good for you, your family and your friends.

Suggestions and/ or techniques:

  • dream catchers
  • Evil eye (can draw one yourself)
  • YOUTUBE music… to help with anxiety, depression, sleep (there’s plenty! My favourite go to is anything by “inner lotus music”). Below is the link of the music I listened to while writing this post.
  • positive affirmations… example: say to yourself… “I am safe. I am loved. I am abundant. I am protected. I am well”. Repeat these… or whichever statements you prefer… a few times before you sleep. You can also try this while having a shower or bath, or even just when washing your hands. I find water to be a very healing energy. By saying these statements while water is running over some part of your body, then the vibrations are stronger and can connect you more to feeling grounded and protected by the Divine.
  • tea “spell” for a goodnight’s sleep… honestly cannot remember how I found this! I tried this year’s ago and found it helpful. I would make my bedtime cup of tea (usually chamomile), and as I would stir honey in it, I would say to myself something similar to: “sleep sweet, sleep well, sleep tight”… I would do and say this at least 3x.
  • (safely!) walk around with a candle, etc (so “cleansing” the space)… very similar to using incense or sage. I would make sure to fan the candle (or incense smoke) while doing a circle in my room and make sure that the scent or smoke would hit the corners (especially closets and doors). Can utter words of protection while doing this but don’t have to.
  • nightlight… himalayan salt lamp is my favourite! I still have one by my bed. Has many different properties and uses, however I enjoy the glow from it and find if I have a really bad dream, by turning on the lamp it immediately calms me (also because I feel I am being bathed in light).
  • prayers: write and put under pillow or mattress
  • crystals grid under your bed (below photo is just an example of one for reference. There are several kinds with various designs and specific crystals for bringing about abundance or protection, etc.)
  • the Lord’s prayer … I just happen to remember this one from high school so it kind of comes easily to me… but please feel free to skip this one, or use your own prayer.
  • nightmare jar…. taking this idea from different Google searches, but this is my take on it. Write out (or do a small drawing) of a few words about whatever feeling fearful or stressed out about… and then take a marker or pen and mark a big “X” over the words/drawing. By doing so you are trying to cancel out the energy it brings. You can then put this into a jar (or seal it in an envelope). By putting it in a jar you can close the lid on those energies… keep the lid CLOSED!! As you can see in the image below, there appears to be some different herbs in the jar. Feel free to make yours however you wish!
  • positive/happy dream box… this is also a newer idea that I was reading about while looking up some stuff for this blog. However, my take on it is this… write out, draw or doodle happy memories and things enjoy and that spark joy! Maybe even shade the colour yellow or gold around it. Then put these pieces of paper into a box (any box will do! Can be as decorative as you like… and keep it near your bed. Also keep the box OPEN… that way before going to sleep, you can look over what you have in your “happy dream box” and have those ideas going through your mind right before you sleep. :0)

You could even get a treasure box… and put photos and/or crystals in it too. Because the memories you put in this are like little treasures in themselves.

  • blow bubbles to blow your fears away… inhale positivity and exhale negativty
  • essential oils or pillow sprays (lavender is a big one for sleep)
  • crystals for helping ease anxiety and good for sleep: Lepidolite (purple) and Howlite (white and grey-ish)

I hope the above list of ideas is helpful and you find something that works well for you. Please remember we all go through phases and one technique that works today may not work as well tomorrow. There of course are many different prayers and belief systems that go into the dream world and dream interpretations. So by no means is the above list complete. As usual, my post is meant as a starting point.
