A Buffet of Spirituality Styles

By

As I was reading through my old entry (“An Anxious Buffet”), I started to formulate the post below in my head. There are lots of spiritual teachings and techniques that someone can follow and learn from while on their own spiritual journey. The hard part can be trying to figure out what fits or suits you best. Below I have a list (of sorts) describing different techniques I’ve come across during my spiritual journey. Of course one may fit better for you than another… and there are probably some ideas I haven’t yet come across myself! So this is most definitely not a “be-all-end-all” type of list… just merely some suggestions. 🙂

Different methods or ways to explore your spirituality and connect with your Guides can include (but certainly not limited to):

  • meditation
  • yoga
  • retreats
  • classes
  • literature (books)
  • social media (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok)
  • spiritual teachers (and workshops)
  • shadow work (journaling)

Different tools to do a reading with:

  • painting (notice the colours and shapes creating)
  • coffee grounds (see what images the grinds make; see if they clump together or separate more)
  • tea leaves (similar to coffee grounds)
  • flower petals (notice how some cluster; if any make you think of an image in your mind; how dry are the flowers? do any petals crumble?)
  • incense smoke (take notice if there is one smoke line or two; is it burning strongly and quickly, or slow and smooth?)
  • tarot and/or oracle cards
  • pick a page in a book (one word or sentence at a time)
  • song tiles (write short song lyrics on a wood tile or blank playing card)
  • word beads (usually can find these at a dollar store. Have short words like “believe” or “friend”)
  • pendulum (generally for “yes” or “no” questions). You can even create one yourself using a necklace but does need a good and solid pendant at the bottom to act as a “pointer”. Since I do not use pendulums (I have tried several times with various types), I have included a link which gives lots of information on pendulums from how to use them to how to cleanse them. Of course please feel free to research this more if interested, the link is merely a suggestion.

The above lists are meant to be starting points so you can start to research and play on your own with different techniques and tools. I would also like to note that when first trying to do your own reading it is usually easier to ask more basic questions to get used to how your Guides communicate with you. It is much harder to go immediately into asking a very serious or potentially life-changing question. Another way I have found it more helpful is to give three potential outcomes. So if asking about a job (or a romantic partner), can get a piece of paper and write down Option A (usually current job/partner), Option B, and Option C (which is generally one haven’t thought of or been shown by Universe yet). Then take whichever tool you’re using and ask the guides to give an answer for Option A. Then the next two. You can usually tell which is the “best/better” option based on what is being shown.

Another thing I’d like to mention is how absolutely fascinating it is to do readings! During a reading I can see different images in my mind’s eye but it doesn’t always show the full picture. In fact, lots of times it’s flashing images similar to a short movie reel. Or, if anyone remembers the View Master toy (featured below)… it’s kind of like that… images being quickly flicked through or presented to me. My mind’s eye catches what it can as quickly as it can… and in the meantime I am also having to translate or interpret what I am seeing and share that with my client. (This is partially why some readings need more time to complete. It can be a lot of information to share and have to figure out how those images fit to the question being asked, and then explain how the answer is literally in the images). ;0)

An example of how images can direct someone to an answer was presented to me this past weekend. We went out of town with some friends and my one friend kept suggesting we go see what she was calling the “hoodoo voodoos”. For the life of me I wasn’t sure what she meant by that, and by a series of random events the evening before our adventure, I came across a link for a dinosaur museum near where we were staying. The funny part is it took until near the end of our dinosaur adventure to see a sign literally marked “hoodoo voodoo”! So I didn’t realize until that very moment that the place she had suggested we go to, and the place my guides had directed me to Google (because of a whole different situation), ended up being the exact same place!! You may be asking, what’s my point in all of this? Well to me it just goes to show that images stand out and can be easier to remember than full names of a location. It is also an example of how even during a reading (or doing your own reading), your guides can give you little hints, little bits of pictures like clues. You’re not always given the full image. Sometimes you have to piece it together at a later date. This makes you kind of a detective … and also teaches you to connect with your intuition more (like asking yourself if on the right path).

Another way I can explain this is by using a puzzle as an example. Think of it as having all the pieces you need but no front box to show the final result. You’d just have to start adding different pieces together as they fit. Once the image becomes bigger and more pieces are added, you’re better able to get an understanding of the overall final picture. This is true with my spirit guides. They will give you those pieces and sometimes if lucky larger chunks of the final product, but ultimately you have to do the work to finish putting it together. I find this is very true when trying to manifest some thought or idea into reality.

Below I have included some images to illustrate this idea more. The first picture is of a puzzle of a tree. We can easily see how complete the puzzle is and therefore know it’s a tree. However, the missing pieces could be anyone’s guess. Is it just more branches and leaves, or are there fruits or blossoming flowers on the tree? This is an example of how when doing a reading, my Guides can give the overall picture but not necessarily the fine details. Those sometimes have to be filled in by you, the client. (Also, quick side note… generally your Guides are talking to my Guides… and I am hearing what my Guides are saying and sharing that back to you, my client). This is when you’re able to connect with your Guides and your intuition comes in handy! Sometimes as a reader I am simply here to confirm something you already know. (Don’t worry! I’ve been there too as a client!) ;0)

In addition to the Guides giving an overall image to show me an answer, they can also give me something similar to the picture below. It’s like someone is standing in one reality and a new one is being revealed. With the image below I am more focused on what is being revealed. We can see the tree, the grass and the instrument very clearly. So if my Guides were to show me something like this I would explain to my client that they’re in between worlds, or at least feeling energies of that, and being guided to something musical. With this it feels (to me), to be something to do with work. Also, when I do readings around topics of “work”, my Guides generally try and separate it between a “job” and a “career”. One is more temporary or short-term, whereas the other is more permanent and/or more to do with someone’s life path.

The other thing to note with this image is that the person seems to be standing in space. So to me this would point to dreams and I would encourage a person to take note of what they’re dreaming and what they are wanting to manifest into reality. (Actually this brings me to a random idea! Haven’t had this much before… so Guides are suggesting that if you’re not interested in writing down things you wish to bring into reality, and not into making a vision board… then why not try to find pictures online to look at and commit to memory. That way can bring these into mind if/when meditating. Okay random but cool idea! Thanks Guides!!) :0)

Another way to try and illustrate how my Guides come forward with images is the next picture. The point I am trying to demonstrate here is that the eye will at first recognize the number 15. You may even pick out the colours … then you might start to notice the number surrounding the outer edges. This I find is common when given images to answer a client’s question. I can be shown one big image to start but the more I ask (in my head) about the image either the more I am shown, or the more the Guides bring my focus and attention to other parts of the initial image.

My apologies if this post seems a little all over the place! It is getting later in the afternoon and I need to get this post up and published, LOL! The goal here is really to encourage you to explore different methods to see what works well for you. We are not created the same way, we all have different preferences and learn better from different methods. So I do hope that this has encouraged you to explore more tools and techniques that work for your spiritual growth and journey. I had included some of the above images to try and better demonstrate what I see during a reading. Should you have one with me in the future you already have an idea of what I may be seeing… and sometimes it’s amazing when the Guides offer an image and I share it with a client, how we can piece the puzzle more and create a fuller image. That’s the best part! 🙂

Enjoy your afternoon and have an amazing weekend!

Lots of hugs,

Brandy Marie
