(Original journal entry: June 2019)
I have included some affirmations below for anyone who maybe would like to try one. Pick one or two and see how affirmation feels to say, where you feel it in body, and also notice the energy it creates around you. I tend to do these at bedtime, either before going to bed or as I am trying to fall asleep. Sometimes I use them with my mala (like a rosary) and find it can help me focus on thinking or saying the affirmation. So here are a few to try. You can find lots online but I prefer the shorter ones. They are easier to remember and I find I can repeat them more and it’s that repetitiveness that helps calm me. Feel free to add or change any of the ones below. These are just ones that I have continued doing on a fairly regular basis.
(2023 update: it’s a good thing I am going over these entries before “publishing” them to my website, because I have been slacking doing these on a regular basis. So thank you to my guides for the reminder, LOL!)
The first one I learned from my counsellor. She taught me to do this while pressing my fingers together. So you start with your index finger touching your thumb, then middle finger to thumb and so on. You work all the way through to your pinky finger and then start over with index and thumb again. The way we did it in the session is by starting to say it out loud, then whisper and then just say affirmation in your head. Then back to a whisper and finally end with saying it aloud again. The whole process takes a couple of minutes. I have adjusted it some because I find if I say it out loud then I get distracted and feel almost more rushed to get through it. I also don’t worry about keeping a timer on this and repeat this as many times as I feel I need in that moment. Lots of times I do this using my mala bracelet. Do note that you want your finger pads to touch, to actually feel the fingers press against each other. The affirmation, or mantra, is:
1. “Peace begins with me“. (Each word goes with each finger. So the word “peace” is when touching index to thumb, “begins” is middle finger to thumb, and so on).
I have added to this to make it:
2. “Peace begins with me. Joy begins with me. Love begins with me.”
The next affirmations are ones that I have created/put my own variation on it, after viewing other ones online:
3. “I love myself and bring light to the world.”
4. “I accept joy into my heart.”
5. “I am safe. I am calm. I can breathe.”
I do hope these help. Take care and have a lovely day.
